Project Engineer
Ocean Nutrition Canada Limited (ONC)
Location: Mulgrave

Ocean Nutrition Canada Limited (ONC) is a global leader in the production and supply of Omega-3 ingredients to the dietary supplement and healthy food industries. We are currently seeking an energetic and committed Project Engineer to join our Engineering Team at our manufacturing facility located in Mulgrave, NS.

Reporting to the Director of Engineering, you will be responsible for the planning, development, and execution of corporate projects either by directly managing the project, being part of the project team, or acting as a resource for the project.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering (Mechanical or Chemical)
  • Must be eligible for registration with APENS (P.ENG designation is preferred)
  • Minimum 5 years engineering experience
  • Project management experience
  • Experience working in a sanitary food processing environment
  • Excellent problem solving skills
  • Ability work effectively alone or as part of a team
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Must be able to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously
  • Ability to apply engineering theory in a practical manner
  • Proven leadership skills with both internal and external customers
  • Strong computer skills (MS Office, AutoCAD)

Key Responsibilities:

  • Effectively manage capital projects from the detailed planning stage through to completion and commissioning, ensuring that the agreed upon budget, schedule, and end result are all achieved 
  • Manage external contractors ensuring that communication is effectively flowing between organization and contractors and that all work is being completed as required by organization
  • Develop equipment and installation specifications that are accurate and complete
  • Act as a technical resource in the initial planning and development of capital projects (including budgets, schedules and paybacks)
  • Fairly and accurately compare equipment and installation bids and select the bidder that provides the best solution while satisfying all budget and time constraints
  • Commission new equipment and systems according to internal policy and procedure (IQ and OQ)
  • Act as a technical resource to other departments within the organization by attending meetings and being part of cross-functional teams
  • Ensure that all designs, equipment and installations must not compromise product quality or safety, the safety of the staff, or the quality of the environment

Although our preference is to have this role filled with a resident of the Mulgrave, NS area, we will consider candidates from the Dartmouth, NS area provided they have the required skills, and the ability to travel on a weekly basis.
