Technical Support Engineer – Active Directory

Quest Software is seeking a Support Engineer to support customers on our Windows Management product line for our Active Directory Support team. Position will be based out of the Halifax, Nova Scotia office.

Engineers will work independently and as part of a team using their skills to solve customer's technical issues in various enterprise Windows environments. The engineer will be on the Afternoon Shift (12:00 PM – 9:00 PM) and will also be responsible for providing after-hours support as part of an on-call rotation.

Responsibilities:

  • Field incoming technical issues from customers
  • Maintain a personal queue of ongoing customer issues until resolution
  • Interface with R&D resources to bring escalated issues to resolution
  • Document all customer/case details in a case management system
  • Create knowledge base articles from resolved issues for future use by customers and internal personnel
  • Act as a customer advocate

Required Experience:

  • 3+ years of experience in an advanced technical support or systems administration role.
  • Advanced knowledge of managing and troubleshooting Active Directory (users / groups, Schema knowledge, ADSI Edit, Replication, DNS, Permissions, LDAP, Group Policies, etc.).
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Windows Server 2003.
  • Advanced knowledge of troubleshooting Microsoft Windows operating systems using both native and 3rd party tools.
  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Windows Server 2008.
  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft SQL Server 2005 or 2008.
  • Basic knowledge of Internet Information Server (IIS 5 or 6).
  • Must be independent, self-motivated, a team player and have a people-oriented personality.
  • Must have customer support experience / dealing with customers, very good interpersonal skills (written and spoken).

Preferred Experience:

  • MCSE/ MCSA in Windows Server 2000 or 2003.
  • MCTS with "Windows Technology" concentration.
  • Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 or 2007 basics (storage groups, mail stores, mailboxes, delegating tasks/permissions using exchange system manager).
  • Scripting knowledge (vbs, xml, batch, etc).
  • VMWare, ESX or other virtual technology experience.
