Environmental Engineer

Type of Employment:  One year term

Accountabilities: 

You will provide expertise from Engineering and basic science to the complete business scope of Environmental Services (ES). The ES group works with all environmental aspects of electricity generation (including renewable technologies), transmission and distribution. A focus for this job will be support for environmental assessment and approvals associated with new generation and transmission projects. Work may also involve environmental support for the existing NSPI operations.

Specifically, you will assist with, or be responsible for, the Engineering and basic science support for various activities. You will contribute to, or carry out, studies, or otherwise provide information and opinions, for environmental aspects of this wide variety of topics.

You will be responsible for your personal safety and that of your co-workers by observing all Occupational Health and Safety Rules and Regulations and the requirements of the Nova Scotia Power Safety Program.

Skills, Capabilities and Experience:

You will have completed a Bachelor of Engineering degree from an accredited program. Preference will be given to candidates holding degrees in Chemical or Environmental Engineering. Three to five years relevant experience would be an asset. A working fluency is required with: basic science, with emphasis on chemistry; environmental assessment and environmental legislation at provincial and federal levels; statistics and database management; risk assessment and risk management concepts; environmental site assessment, including contaminated sites management; with emphasis on project environmental approvals. Field and project management experience will be an asset.

A valid NS driver's license is required. Travel will be a necessary part of the successful candidates work routine.

You have excellent interpersonal skills and excellent oral and written communication skills, as well as exceptional organizational skills. The successful candidate will be a pro-active team player who is considered a problem solver and has the ability to report clearly on outcomes to all members of NSPI/Emera.
