Engineering Manager
Magna Powertrain a division of Magna International, a leading global automotive components manufacturer has an immediate opening for an Engineering Manager to join the management team at our Precision Finished Components facility in North Sydney, Nova Scotia:
Main Duties/Responsibilities:
- Ensure that the department has a philosophy to be a service to the Operations team and other departments
- Establish the duties and responsibilities for direct report positions and delegate to each the responsibility and authority for the performance of assigned duties
- Accountable for the management of administrative duties such as vacation requests, purchase orders, expense reports etc.
- Financially accountable for department budget
- Implement and maintain engineering functions to satisfy TS 16949, and ISO 14001 requirements
- Work on specific engineering projects as directed by the General Manager or designate with particular emphasis on ensuring on time completion and cost efficiency while complying with all TS16949 and APQP requirements
- Work closely with Business Unit Managers and their teams to initiate and implement continuous improvement initiative is areas such uptime, OEE, cost reduction, capability, quality, safety, etc
- Develop short and long-term business strategic plans for this department
- Preparation of internal and external reports in a timely manner as required
- Some domestic and international travel is required. “Off-site” work at a customer location or similar facility for different periods of time may be required. Must be able to obtain necessary travel documentation. (Passport, etc)
- Ensures that the Engineering Department is staffed with competent, personnel and that their abilities are identified, developed and utilized
- Be engage in responsibilities in areas of positive employee relations: hiring, training, career development, disciplinary action and conducting regular and timely performance appraisals
- Maintain work environment in a clean and safe condition and adheres to applicable health and safety standards
Qualifications necessary to do the job:
- Must have a post secondary education (degree) engineering field, mechanical or manufacturing applications, or post secondary education (certificate, diploma) in a technical field and 5 years experience as a project or process engineer
- Must have min. 3 years experience in a position of increasing responsibility in a technical field
- Must be able to function and lead well in a team environment
- Must have knowledge of manufacturing processes and controls
- Ability to interpret an income statement an asset
- Ability to prepare, manage, and impact monthly, quarterly, and yearly budgets an asset
- Willing to take responsibility for their work and respond to company needs, i.e.; work extra time as required to meet deadlines
