The City of Moncton is currently accepting applications for the position of By-Law Enforcement Inspector Building Inspection Department. This position is responsible for examining, investigating, and researching building, documents and plans, as well as inspecting new and existing buildings and structures to ensure conformity with the National Building Code, Zoning By-Laws, Minimum Residential Standards and related by-laws and regulations. The position is required to identify by-law infractions, investigate complaints, and prepare orders and notices of non-compliance and legal assistance documents. In addition the position will be responsible to issue development permits for small residential projects. The By-Law Enforcement Inspector will be responsible for the enforcement of municipal by-laws within the City of Moncton, work with established policies, but will be expected to exercise independent judgment and initiative in resolving technical issues or complaints.
This position reports directly to Director of Building Inspection.
The successful candidate must have the following minimum qualifications:
- High School graduation or GED equivalency.
- Community College Graduate in a Civil or Building Engineering Technology Program and registered or eligible for registration in the N.B. Society of Certified Engineering Technicians and Technologists.
- Successful completion of police academy or paralegal training is an asset.
- Certified Engineering Technology Designation with a minimum of three (3) years experience of a responsible nature in the design and inspection field of building construction, including interpreting drawings and specifications or eligible for certification with the five (5) years experience.
- Certification from the New Brunswick Building Official Association would be considered an asset and the incumbent will be required to obtain the Level 3.
- A willingness to upgrade skills when required.
- Well-developed organizational skills.
- The ability to be tactful, exercise diplomacy and conduct negotiations with the public in difficult situations.
- Fluency in both English and French is a requirement.
- Must have a thorough knowledge of the National Building Code and of materials and methods used in building construction, ability to read building construction plans and specifications, and recognize deviations from such plans in the field construction process.
