Newalta, one of Canada's leading industrial waste management and environmental services companies, is currently seeking a Construction Manager in Sussex, NB and Foxtrap, NL.
The successful candidates will be responsible for coordinating with the in-house engineering department, Project Manager and external construction personnel to ensure the project is executed in a timely and efficient manner while maintaining the integrity of the design. The Construction Manager will be responsible for managing all phases of the project to ensure it is completed in accordance with all safety standards and with the approved design, budget and schedule.
Specific responsibilities include:
- Ensure Contractor is working in accordance with the site EH&S program and that best safety practices are being utilized during all site activities.
- Conduct and/or coordinate EH&S related activities including Safety Meetings, Safety Orientations, Safety Inspections, etc.
- Ensure thorough on-site supervision that the construction works are compliant with required regulatory codes, designs, specifications, schedules, standards, quality and EH&S requirements.
- Oversee, plan, coordinate and supervise the activities of the Contractor and co-ordinate Contractor activities with facility requirements. Schedule Contractor work to minimize impact on facility operations while maintaining project schedule.
- Inspect equipment, structures, or materials to confirm compliance with contractor documents and design criteria and equipment specifications.
- Identify problematic design issues and make recommendations to ensure the construction budget/schedule is maintained.
- Ensure maintenance of daily records of all site activities, including information on EH&S activities, labour, equipment, materials, costs, progress, and any non-compliant materials or workmanship.
- Prepare weekly and monthly Activity, Schedule and Cost Control Reports for the Project Manager.
- Monitor project cost and schedule and provide Project Manager with timely identification of deviations from the budget or schedule. The schedule is to be maintained using MS Project.
- Review and approve all invoices and daily work orders. Confirm that quantities of completed work items and equipment deliveries agreed with the Contractor estimates.
- Ensures Change Orders are completed as required.
- Ensures all contractual issues are resolved and dealt with in a timely manner.
The following qualifications and skill sets are required:
- Formal training in architectural, engineering, construction, or a related field.
- Project Management or P.Eng. designation an asset.
- Approx. 10 years experience in the Project/Construction Management field – preferably in an industrial setting.
- Knowledgeable about design and construction processes for industrial or commercial facilities.
- Knowledgeable of existing regulatory and building construction codes.
- Ability to follow-through, be proactive and prioritize
- Excellent interpersonal, communication and conflict resolution skills
- Ability to work independently as well as in a team
- Organized and detail oriented
- Demonstrated proficiency at progress report writing
- Capable of managing a variety of complex tasks/projects simultaneously
- Able to work in a multi-disciplinary environment
- Highly adaptable and professional
- Excellent computer skills, MSWord, Excel, MS Project
