Employment and Student Life Coordinator

Celebrating its centenary in 2010, St. Thomas University is an undergraduate, liberal arts institution whose roots are in the faith and tradition of the Roman Catholic Church. With an enrolment of 2,400, its students graduate with Bachelor of Arts, Applied Arts, Education, and Social Work degrees. The faculty members are distinguished teachers, researchers and scholars, and the university holds three Canada Research Chairs.

St. Thomas University offers a dynamic and challenging work environment, and invites applications for the position of Employment and Student Life Coordinator.

Reporting to the Associate Registrar, the Employment and Student Life Coordinator is primarily responsible for the following aspects of the student experience: student employment/career needs, student financial matters, and student life. The ideal candidate will achieve goals in these areas through an in depth understanding of the current needs of St. Thomas students, an ability to advise and counsel, and the capacity to collaborate with various key departments in the university community. The Employment and Student Life Coordinator will see beyond simply providing a positive student experience, and be driven to have the St. Thomas student experience translate into improved student retention.

Key responsibilities for this role include:

  • Communicates career and financial resources information and programmes to university community in an effective and timely manner, and provides one-on-one career and financial resources advising to students.
  • Coordinates workshops, programmes, and events that focus on career success skills for students.
  • Advises students on financial matters, including all aspects of U.S. student aid.
  • Coordinates a number of student events with the underlying objectives of enhancing student life, improving student engagement and improving student retention.

Qualifications for this position include:

  • A university degree.
  • Experience in employment/financial counseling.
  • Experience with coordinating events that focus on employment/career opportunities for students, student life activities, and training/workshop centered on student needs.
  • An understanding of the Canadian and U.S. student financial aid systems along with experience assisting those in need of financial aid.
  • Proven written and verbal communication, organizational, and problem solving skills.
  • A self-starter with a demonstrated ability to deal with a diverse set of demands would be an ideal fit for this exciting role.
