Petroleum Resources Geologist
Pay Band 6
The Department of Natural Resources, Geological Surveys Branch, Fredericton, is seeking a Geologist who will be responsible for undertaking petroleum resource evaluation studies within New Brunswick lands. The focus of the work will be directed at petroleum systems and will include source rock evaluations by optical and geochemical methods, source and reservoir rock burial history, determining stratigraphic and structural controls on traps, and detail studies on reservoirs (including petrophysical, petrological, geochemical, provenance, sedimentology, stratigraphic and structural controls). Results of field and laboratory work will be published as government hydrocarbon assessment maps and reports, and as articles in scientific journals.
Other geoscientific activities will include providing technical advice to the petroleum exploration companies, to current right holders in New Brunswick, and others seeking business opportunities in New Brunswick; the creation and management of geoscience and petroleum-resource databases, collaboration with federal government and universities with respect to mutually beneficial geoscience projects. Promotional activities will include development of oral and poster presentations on New Brunswick's petroleum potential for presentation at industrial forums and trade shows; and the development of web-based promotional presentations.
Qualifications:
A Masters of Science in Geology in sedimentology, petroleum geology, or related "soft rock" fields. A minimum of five years related experience in geological mapping or petroleum resource assessment, after completion of a university degree, is required. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. Candidates will be required to demonstrate a knowledge of three of the following: Geographic Information Systems (GIS), organic geochemical methods, wireline logging methods, wireline log interpretations, the seismic reflection method and seismic reflection records interpretation. He or she must also demonstrate the following behavioural competencies: conceptual thinking and effective interactive communication. Knowledge of MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint are required.
Written and spoken competence in English is required.

Salary: $2241 to $2983 bi-weekly
