The Birches Nursing home is a fully-accredited long term care facility that provides team-based holistic care for 42 older adults and 2 community outreach adult day programs. 

Casual Cooks

Reporting to the Food Services Supervisor the Casual Cook is responsible for the preparation of ingredients and the production of foods required for resident menu.  Cooks are also responsible for the preparation of catering requests for residents and facility functions, baking, night lunches, clean up duties and transportation of prepared foods from Twin Oaks/Birches Production Kitchen site to The Birches service kitchen/dining room where the cook plates the prepared foods for residents at each meal.  To be responsible to communicate with domestic staff and direct care providers assisting with food services in the dining room.

Currently we have vacancies for casual positions:

• Flexibility required for rotations through all shifts including weekends and holidays.

Qualifications:

• Grade 12 and 1 year cooking experience
• Familiarity with therapeutic diets and/or previous experience working in health care an asset.
• Demonstrates effective communication and interpersonal skills.
• Able to work independently or as apart of a team.

Position begins as soon as possible.
Salary according to current CUPE collective agreement; however casuals are not part of the bargaining unit.
