Quality Technician

High Liner Foods Incorporated processes and markets superior quality seafood products under the High Liner brand. We are currently seeking a Quality Technician to join our progressive Quality Assurance Team. This position is based out of our Lunenburg Operations and is required for our evening shift from 3:00 p.m. to 11:30 p.m.

Reporting to the Quality Manager, the Quality Technician is responsible for verifying compliance of the raw materials, ingredients and finished products to specifications, monitoring and conducting quality audits of processes and facilities of HLFI and suppliers. He/she will be required to monitor, collect quality data, interpret and recommend improvements as well as educate employees on proper hygienic and sanitary procedures.

Specific Accountabilities:

• Coordinate inspection activities over day and night shifts for packaging, ingredient, product and process inspection or verification according to the government regulations including QMP and QMPi, corporate standards and good manufacturing practices; communicate results to Production and other affected Departments of HLFI or suppliers and customers, this includes micro, physical and chemical analysis.
• Provide necessary training and education for sanitation and hygiene
• Monitor and audit processes and facilities for High Liner Foods and its’ suppliers for QMP, QMPi or HACCP and sanitary ratings.
• Participate in investigation of customer complaints and foreign matter reports.
• Initiating corrective action in instances of quality problems, poor manufacturing practices and safety related issues.

Job Specifications:

• Bachelor of Science or equivalent
• Certifications as a Quality Auditor and/or Quality Technician are an asset
• Experience in the food industry, preferably in seafood is preferred
• Trained in sensory evaluation, HACCP, and GMP an asset
• Excellent interpersonal and communications skills, both oral and written
• Strong team player with leadership skills
• Strong mathematical, SPC, and computer skills
