Responsibilities:
Reporting jointly to the Provincial Manager, Education and Patient Navigation, Cancer Care Nova Scotia (CCNS) and the Director of the appropriate adult cancer care program, the Oncology Practice Consultant (OPC) is accountable for supporting health professional education strategies required to meet outcomes as defined in oncology provincial standards, policies and procedures. The OPC will work as part of the virtual team comprised of one OPC at each of the provincial cancer centers in addition to the position at CCNS. She/he will show leadership in oncology clinical education and will work collaboratively and effectively in concert with existing clinical oncology education resources across the province.

The OPC will be responsible for the:
* Implementation and outcomes of the programs of the CCNS Excellence in Cancer Care: Oncology Education for Health Professionals series
* Training of interprofessional facilitators
* Updating of clinical content of existing curriculum
* Development of assessments, additional interprofessional curriculum and programs
* Assurance that curriculum is based on the Standards for Levels of Care, policies and procedures and competency documents
* Supervision of preceptorship and examination, both knowledge and skills based, according to predetermined standards

The OPC will work with the District Health Authorities to implement policies and procedures, including patient education standards, at satellite clinics and other hospitals where systemic therapy is delivered, outside of the provincial cancer centers, to ensure safe, quality cancer care throughout Nova Scotia.

Working with the existing oncology Clinical Nurse Educators, located in the provincial cancer programs, the OPC provides ¿just in time¿ phone, virtual and onsite professional practice consultation and assistance. She/he maintains clinical competence and professional development by updating knowledge and skills. In order to maintain this competence, a portion of the time will be spent in clinical practice.

The OPC believes in the importance of interprofessional learning and collaborative patient-centered practice and can demonstrate this in her/his past and present positions. She/he participates in national meetings, conferences and organizations to maintain/share own knowledge.

This position will require travel, on a regular basis, throughout Nova Scotia. Flexible hours, to meet the demand for evening and weekend workshops and meetings, will be required.

Qualifications:
* Bachelor Degree in Nursing required
* Master Degree in education or a health professional field OR an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered
* Diploma or Certification in Adult Education or equivalent with application using technology and/or web-based delivery an asset
* Minimum five (5) years oncology experience
* Minimum five (5) years experience designing, implementing and evaluating formal educational program(s)
* Current registration with the College of Registered Nurses of Nova Scotia
* Canadian Nurses Association Certification in Oncology or eligibility for certification
* Membership in Canadian Association of Nurses in Oncology
* Must have current clinical competency in Oncology
* Demonstrated ability to function independently and as part of team
* Demonstrated consultation, negotiation and team-building skills
* Demonstrated experience working in interprofessional environment and an understanding and appreciation of roles and responsibilities of other health professionals
* Demonstrated experience in collaborative patient-centered care
* Evidence of knowledge, understanding and application of principles of adult teaching and learning
* Knowledge of distance education technology/deliver, including web-based deliver
* Recent professional development relevant to maintaining currency in clinical practice and education
* Evidence of professional accomplishments demonstrated through leadership roles
* Well developed analytical skills and knowledge of research methodologies
* Experience in critical thinking and appraisal of research
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills
* Working knowledge of computer applications
* Current Nova Scotia driver's license
* Experience using/implementing/developing needs assessments
* Clinical knowledge/background in decision-making process when determining fit and impact on clinical systems
* Demonstrated commitment to personal and professional development
* Demonstrated wide perspective of clinical departments, provincial, national and CCNS programs, intersectoral, interprofessional

Hours of Work:
* 3 Permanent Full-time Positions; 75 hours biweekly
* Please indicate location preference - 1 position works out of Cancer Care Nova Scotia, Halifax; 1 position works out of the Cancer Care Program at Capital Health, Halifax and 1 position works out of the Cape Breton Cancer Center, Sydney
* Flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, required
* Willingness to travel throughout Nova Scotia
