Development Officer I
Summary — The Greater Moncton Planning District Commission is inviting applications for the position of Development Officer I. The Commission services a population of approximately 126,000 people and provides policy advice, land use planning and development control to 8 municipalities and parts of two Counties in south eastern New Brunswick.
Under the direction and guidance of the Manager of Development Control, the Development Officer will receive, coordinate, and assist with the processing of all Commission applications which include: Subdivision Applications, Building and Development Permit Applications, Variance, Terms and Conditions, Rulings of Compatibility, Zoning Letters, and Re-zoning applications. This work will involve working at the Planning Commission’s Development Counter where applications are reviewed and filed, in addition to fielding inquiries from the public on development matters. The Development Officer will provide information and advice to clients regarding municipal and other requirements for land development. This work involves considerable contact with developers, citizen groups, the public and other agencies in providing information and advice on by-law requirements and overall municipal planning objectives. The Development Officer will also assist with the preparation of monthly development activity and building permit reports.
Qualifications — The successful candidate shall be a graduate from a Civil Engineering Technology program or an equivalent program. Experience in the construction industry in relation to building construction, building code interpretation, field inspection and knowledge in Development Control and Development Officer function as they relate to the administration and interpretation of zoning regulations and other Provincial regulations is considered an asset.
Training — The successful candidate will receive substantial on the job training as it relates to the Development Officer duties and functions.
In addition to the qualifications above, successful applicant’s must possess a valid driver’s licence and have the ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing in both official languages.
