Position Overview:

We are looking for a highly motivated individual to assume the role of Team Leader in the Atlantic Region. The successful candidate will be an individual with strong leadership, marketing and underwriting skills, who will deliver a profitable book of business. You will be responsible for coaching and developing a group of underwriters who handle specialty insurance products, and working closely with other underwriting teams and consultants to ensure underwriting integrity in our business segments.

What you will achieve in this role: 

  • Manage a portfolio of property/casualty business for the Atlantic region
  • Leadership of a team of underwriters
  • Implementation of Corporate underwriting strategies for all lines of business
  • Work in conjunction with Senior Management and Specialists to develop team business goals
  • Provide expertise and coaching to underwriters
  • Training and development of underwriters
  • Ensure compliance with licensing/authority levels
  • Administrative duties
  • Lead team meetings
  • Communicate business results to senior management on an ongoing basis

What you need to know and what experience you need to have for this role:

  • Ability to coach and develop a group of underwriters at various skill levels
  • Strong understanding of the financial services industry
  • Ability to develop and lead continuous improvement initiatives
  • Balancing our focus on underwriting profits with customer needs
  • Strong ability for team operational planning, organizing and monitoring
  • Understanding of business levers
  • Excellent interpersonal skills

What education is best for this role:

  • University Degree, preferably in a business discipline
  • Completion of CIP or FCIP designation an asset
