New Brunswick Public Library Service (NBPLS) is searching for a dynamic librarian with demonstrated enthusiasm for the mission of public libraries to manage the Mgr. Robichaud Public Library, in Beresford.  The library is part of the Chaleur Library Region.

Reporting to the Regional Director, the Director is responsible for the provision of quality library service to the community and the surrounding area.  He/She is responsible for managing the library in accordance with provincial guidelines.  As a librarian, the Director is expected to be a key support to the Regional Director in developing service in the region; in recommending and assisting in the implementation of regional and provincial programs, priorities, policies and guidelines; in taking part in regional and provincial committees; in leading special projects; and in using his/her expertise to mentor and guide staff of the library region via the development of training and other activities, and in acting as substitute for other personnel as requested. 

Duties will include the recruitment, training, supervision and evaluation of staff, as well as students, volunteers and employment program personnel; scheduling hours of work; providing loan service through an automated circulation system; providing complex level reference service through traditional and electronic resources; assisting patrons in the use of information technology and library services; providing reader's advisory service; planning and implementing library programs for children and adults; performing community analysis; marketing the library and its services; engaging in public, community and media relations; making public presentations; participating in the selection and maintenance of library collections; maintaining positive relations with the community and the staff of the library region; developing partnerships; applying for and managing grants; completing reports; and assuming other duties as assigned.  He/She will work in conjunction with the Regional Director to submit budget requests for the library, develop needs analysis for library space, and to maintain the library facility in cooperation with the municipality.  He/She will also be responsible for the shelving of materials and shelf reading.

This position requires daytime, evening and weekend work (based on work schedules).  Some travel will be required and the successful candidate must possess a valid driver's license.  Maintaining the library collections will involve some lifting.

Candidates must possess a Masters degree in Library and/or Information Studies from an accredited program.  Knowledge of library automation, electronic reference tools, the principles of collection development and community relations are essential.  It is also necessary to know how to use e-mail, the Internet and Ms-Word. Written and spoken competence in French is required.

The successful candidate will possess excellent management, leadership, communication, interpersonal and supervisory skills.  A demonstrated sense of organization as well as a strong aptitude for problem solving, analysis and team work is necessary.

Candidates who will complete their Masters degree in Library and/or Information Studies during the course of the coming year may also apply.

Salary: From $1,536 to $2,145 bi-weekly, depending upon qualifications.
