Payroll and Benefits Specialist
As a Payroll and Benefits Specialist with J.D. Irving, Limited's Financial Services group you will lead the group in ensuring excellence in the provision of the payroll and benefits service, reporting, analysis and compliance.
You will deal with a wide variety of internal customers and coach the team on a daily basis to ensure the accurate and timely processing of multiple payrolls.
The Payroll and Benefits Team provides payroll and employee benefit services to more than 8,500 affiliated employees and contractors in Canada and the US, involving multiple provinces and states, numerous union contracts and several different payroll systems.
The employee and management groups serviced cover many different business sectors, including forestry, shipbuilding, manufacturing, and information technology services.
Responsibilities
Reporting to the Manager of the Payroll and Benefits team, your key responsibilities in this role are to ensure payrolls are maintained, benefit administration and education is delivered, payroll accounting functions are carried out to standard and payroll process are continually improved upon through your leadership as the owner of these improvement initiatives. You will accomplish this through your excellent leadership abilities focused on the continual professional development of the team members and your commitment to the importance of team work.
Requirements As the successful candidate you meet the following requirements:
- Post Secondary Education Completion
- Payroll Certification
- Five to Eight Years Payroll and Benefit Experience
- Strong Systems Aptitude, including proficiency with the MS Office Suite and Databases
- Experience with ADP Payroll, Oracle Payroll/Oracle Time & Labour and/or Kronos Time Management
- Systems is an Asset
- Proven Leadership Abilities
