Health & Safety Coordinator
McCain Foods (Canada) is currently seeking a results-oriented team player in Carberry, MB in the role of Health & Safety Coordinator. The incumbent will play a leadership role in our Growing Together strategy and its sustainability. This full time position reports to the Human Resources Manager with a dotted line to the Director of Health & Safety (Canada).
Major Responsibilities:
- Inspire Results ~ Assist management teams and employees in promoting a healthy and safe work environment by overseeing all aspects of Health and Safety at the facility; and act as a resource to the Joint Health and Safety Committee.
- Partner with Facility / Plant Manager/JHSC members and the Director of Health & Safety to set performance expectations and safety goals.
- Be a Role Model ~ Ensure compliance with federal, provincial and municipal regulations, and McCain Foods Canada and Global Health and Safety policies, by working with business partners to train, implement and institutionalize changes and continue to build safety program essentials.
- Act as a Company liaison with various governmental agencies as required and appropriate
- Maintain an ongoing inspection program of facilities and equipment to identify health and safety hazards.
- Develop People ~ Provide Health and Safety training and operational audits. Support root cause preventative action closure of audit findings within required deadlines. Analyze incident and injury trends to identify training deficiencies, behavioral issues, or other opportunities for operations and work flow improvements.
- Develop and manage audits and awareness programs; provide new employee orientation; and assist in the Return to Work Program
- Create the Future ~ Leader in effectively communicating and influencing facility employees and managers to maximize overall performance in meeting McCain Foods Canada and Global safety goals and objectives.
Qualifications:
- Post Secondary education, preferably in Occupational Health & Safety, or related technical discipline.
- 3+ years of experience and a proven track record of successfully leading Health and Safety programs and compliance in a manufacturing environment. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered for the right individual.
- Professional certification is desired (i.e. Canadian Registered Safety Professional - CRSP, or Certified Safety Professional – CSP, or ability to obtain within 2 -4 years )
- Excellent communication skills – both written and oral. Presentation skills a must.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to lead and influence teams, drive change and interact cross-functionally
- Excellent organizational and time management skills with ability to prioritize and drive multiple initiatives
- Strong PC skills, with knowledge of Power Point, word, spreadsheets and database programs.
