Occupational Hygienist

The Workplace Health, Safety and Compensation Commission of New Brunswick is now accepting applications for the permanent position of Occupational Hygienist located in Grand Falls, NB.
Reporting to the Director, Northwest Region, the Occupational Hygienist is responsible for inspecting workplaces, under authority of the Occupational Health and Safety Act, for compliance as it relates to health effects caused by exposure to chemicals, physical agents (e.g. noise) and biological agents (e.g. bacteria). The Occupational Hygienist provides information to various stakeholders on specific hazards related to work processes and materials and offers advice on how to minimize workplace exposures. Duties will include, but not limited to, coordinating, developing and delivering workshops on matters related to occupational hygiene as well as issuing directives and recommendations to workplaces to correct non-compliance situations. The Occupational Hygienist will also represent the WHSCC in interactions with physicians, occupational hygienists, other medical and safety professionals and provincial and national organizations and agencies on issues related to workplace health and safety.
The candidate must possess at least a Bachelor of Science or Engineering degree and be a certified occupational hygienist. The applicant must be certified or registered by ABIH (American Board of Industrial Hygiene) or CRBOH (Canadian Registration Board of Occupational Hygiene). Registered Occupational Hygiene Technologists may be considered. The candidate must be able to communicate technical knowledge in an objective and trustworthy manner in situations which can be adversarial and tense, have an understanding of the different labour/management perspectives and have the ability to demonstrate sensitivity to the concerns of all stakeholders. Consideration may be given to Occupational Hygienists or Hygiene Technologists who have not yet obtained their certification. Written and Spoken competence in English and French required.
