Responsibilities:
Under the general supervision of the Manager of Perfusion Services and the Cardiovascular Surgeons, the perfusionist is responsible for providing a life maintaining support system for patients during cardiovascular surgery. In consultation with the surgeon, main duties consist of the selection and operation of the appropriate equipment required during extracorporeal circulation bypass. The perfusionist is an integral part of the open heart surgical team.
Qualifications:
* Graduate of an accredited school of Perfusion Technology
* Certification with the American Board of Cardiovascular Perfusion and/or the Canadian Board of Clinical Perfusion
* Possession of a recognized degree in a science or health care discipline an asset
* 2 years clinical perfusion experience an asset, but recent graduates encouraged to apply
* Experience with adult and pediatric cardiopulmonary bypass procedures is a definite asset
* Demonstrated ability to work under pressure and cope in stressful/emergency situations
* Must possess a high degree of technical skill and surgical knowledge to operate and maintain the bypass circuit
* Preference will be given to candidates with an interest in research and the publication/presentation of their findings
Hours of Work:
* Long Assignment Full-time Position; 75 hours biweekly
* Beginning September 9, 2008 until August 9, 2009 with the possibility of a permanent position
Salary: Salary commensurate with skills and experience.
