Responsibilities:
The Occupational Health Hygienist reports to the Manager of Occupational Health and is responsible for developing and maintaining a comprehensive occupational hygiene program for Capital Health. The occupational Hygienists's primary goal s to anticipate, recognize, evaluate, and control hazards in the work environment to protect worker health. In addition, the hygienist is a resource for safe handling of hazardous materials, chemical safety, respiratory protection, ergonomics, exposure assessment and indoor air quality evaluations. The Occupational Hygiene Program applies the principles of anticipation, recognition, evaluation and control to prevent occupational illness, injury, and disease.

Qualifications:
* Bachelor or Masters Degree in related field (eg. Science, Engineering, Health)
* Minimum 2 years work experience in occupational hygiene
* Registered Occupational Hygienist (ROH) or Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH), or eligible for certification
* Ability to apply occupational hygiene principles to the health care setting to prevent occupational illness, injury and disease
* Knowledge of applicable occupational health and safety acts and regulations.
* Ability to interpret regulations to ensure that minimum legislated requirements are met or exceeded in all environments within Capital Health.
* Ability to gather information to conduct sound investigations including occupational hygiene surveys and interpretation of sampling results.
* Must be able to recognize range of chemical, physical, and biological hazards.
* Ability to recommend hazard controls to prevent occupational exposures that will be successful in the work environment using the hierarchy of controls approach.
* Ability to communicate (verbally and in writing) occupational hygiene principles and investigation findings to a range of management and workers
* Knowledge of occupational hygiene sampling techniques including the ability to operate hygiene sampling equipment and the ability to design sampling strategies
* Ability to prioritize issues to ensure that the greatest risks are reduced for the largest populations
* Ability to conduct research from primary and secondary sources to assist with risk assessments for health effects from occupational exposures.
* Must be able to understand and apply technical information related to epidemiology, statistics, toxicology, ventilation, physiology, anatomy etc.
* Excellent communication skills
* Excellent facilitation skills

Hours of Work:
* Permanent Full-time Position; 75 hours bi-weekly
* Evening and weekend work is sometimes required
* Position requires frequent access to a vehicle for travelling throughout the district

Salary: Occupational Health Hygienist:
$28.3793 - $35.4741 Hourly
