Vice President, Research & Development

Ocean Nutrition Canada (ONC) is the global category leader of Omega-3 fatty acids for the dietary supplement and healthy food ingredient markets. ONC offers an exciting career challenge along with quality of life in the Municipality of Halifax, Nova Scotia. ONC is also home to North America’s largest privately owned and well funded marine research development facility which consists of 11 Ph.D’s and 30 scientist researching Omega-3 EPA and DHA. Halifax offers the highest number of Universities per capita along with a very significant amount of academic research opportunities. 

This innovative life science company is searching for a Vice President, Research & Development to join their senior management team and be a major contributor to the overall strategic direction and success of their organization. You will be responsible for directing the research and development group to be world class leaders in creating and delivering Omega-3 EPA and DHA ingredients that improve human health; developing and improving procedures, controls, methodologies and overall best practices to enhance the core capabilities and maximize efficiencies, particularly with respect to delivery technologies; acting as the public face for research innovation efforts and ensuring credibility in the scientific and client communities remains strong.

With a passion for preventive health and developing and improving delivery technologies, you ideally bring experience in the food industry along with a PhD in chemistry, bio-chemistry, analytical chemistry or food science. You are an experienced leader of diverse teams of scientific innovators and product developers. A core understanding of how delivery technologies such as encapsulation, colloid and/or emulsion stabilize a product during the manufacturing process is essential, as is your expertise and experience working with Omega-3 or fats and oils. You have outstanding credentials and recognition in the scientific community and an excellent track record of patents. You have successfully introduced new products to the market place and know how to work collaboratively with other members of the executive team to grow the business.
