Product Development Technologist
The Engineered Coated Products Division of Intertape Polymer is currently the market leader in the introduction of innovative new products. We are looking for an individual holding a BSC or Masters Degree in Chemistry who will perform analytical testing and ensure regulatory compliance of new and existing products within the Product Development Group. Specifically, they will be responsible for working with the group in determining the properties of our fabrics versus competitive fabrics as we enter into new market areas. Our product development group focuses on translating advances in polyolefin resins and additive technology to improve the properties of current products as well as to develop suitable replacements for reinforced PVC fabrics.
This job is considered an entry level Research and Development position. It is expected that the successful candidate will follow a career path into managing R&D projects or Field Technical Support. This position will report to the Director of Research and Development – ECP and will be based in Truro, Nova Scotia.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Performs such tests as Instron testing, FTIR, DSC, Heat Seal Strength, Flame Retardancy, etc. using the analytical equipment within Intertape as well as coordinating testing at resin supplier’s facilities and outside contract laboratories. Experience with these types of analytical equipment is preferable but not a requirement.
Assists in developing new tests or test methods to support the development and marketing of products for new markets.
Supports all aspects of the product development cycle from screening new product prototypes to developing spec. sheet data and helps ensure regulatory compliance prior to the launch of a new product.
Develops and implements methods and procedures for monitoring projects such as preparation of analytical reports and research findings, progress reports, and staff conferences, in order to inform management of current status of each project.
