Optimize Resource Recovery

With its regulatory mandate to effectively manage Nova Scotia's offshore petroleum resources, the work of the Canada – Nova Scotia Offshore Petroleum Board (CNSOPB) is essential to the economic health and future of Nova Scotia.  Based in Halifax, the Board's responsibilities include the sale of interest in lands; the issuing of exploration and production licences, approvals and authorizations; the declaration of Significant and Commercial discoveries; decisions relating to the commencement, continuation, and suspension of drilling and production; promoting the continual improvement of health and safety and environmental protection in offshore operations; the administration of regulations; and the exercise of emergency powers pertaining to safety, environmental protection, and resource conservation. 

Reporting directly to the Board, the Chief Executive Officer will be a senior operations executive who has built a successful career in the offshore petroleum industry. Extensive knowledge of related business, financial, safety and environmental matters and of federal and provincial government legislation and operations and leadership skills in the private sector, as a consultant or with a regulatory agency are vital to the role.

You will oversee the day-to-day management of Board staff and activities; administer Accord Acts in accordance with the CNSOPB's mandate; provide strategic advice and recommendations to the Board; develop policies, procedures, and guidelines for Board consideration and implementing Board approved directives and initiatives. You will manage the financial administration of the Board; ensure that an effective management system is implemented and maintained; foster effective relations with senior industry and senior government officials; and, maintaining a knowledge of, and effective working relationship with, interested parties in the Nova Scotia offshore area.
