Purpose:
The Accounting Technician is primarily responsible for the Accounts Payable/Accounts Receivable functions in the Finance Department This key member of the corporate Finance/Payroll team provides services to our Corporate and Site operations and support to other team members.
Reports to:
This position reports to the Controller.
Responsibilities:
- Prepare and issue revenue invoices, accounts receivable statements, and other financial reports using computerized and manual systems
- Set-up new vendors and customers
- Code source documents with general ledger codes and enter into the sub-ledger
- Respond to customer inquiries, maintain good customer relations, and solve problems
- Initiate accounts receivable collection correspondences
- Verify vendor account statements
- Post bank transactions such as lease and insurance payments
- Maintain maintenance/other vendor agreement files
- Perform clerical duties such as filing, faxing, and photocopying
- Back-up to the other Accounting Technician – including sales tax remittance (federal and provincial), processing various employee benefits and other expense claims, processing cash receipts and issuing of cheques and bank transfers, update daily cash/bank reconciliations
- Other duties to be assigned by Finance Management
Qualifications:
- Minimum 2 years work experience performing similar duties
- Diploma/Degree in Accounting /Business Administration and/or Office Administration combined with prior work experience
- Working knowledge of Great Plains Accounting Software a definite asset
- Proficient in MS Office Word and Excel
- Experienced dealing with multiple tasks simultaneously
- Able to prioritize and be detail oriented
- Works well under pressure and meets deadlines set forth
- A team player able to work across departmental lines with minimal supervision
- Dependable, flexible, and has a positive attitude
- Treat information as classified and highly confidential
