Accountant – Internal Auditor
Location: Halifax

Description of Duties (May include, but not limited to):

  • Provide internal audit management with information about the adequacy and effectiveness of the system of internal controls within the various company divisions, while ensuring compliance with laws, regulations and Company policies.
  • Plan and perform operational audits and special projects within various company divisions.
  • Review, evaluate and document internal control systems.
  • Present to management the audit findings and practical recommendations to improve internal control weaknesses and inefficiencies.
  • Prepare internal audit reports.
  • Prepare year-end working paper files, financial statements and perform special year-end procedures for external auditors.
  • Assist in special investigations for alleged occurrences of fraud and other areas of concern as directed by the Vice President, Taxation and Audit and/or the Director, Internal Audit.

Qualifications:

  • An undergraduate business degree with an accounting major and a recognized accounting designation, C.A., C.M.A. or C.G.A. is a must together with minimum of two years related working experience. (CIA and/or CISA designations an asset).
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Must be well organized, analytical and display strong negotiating skills.
  • Computer literate with hands-on experience in Microsoft Office.
  • Must have motor vehicle and be free to travel. Some distance travel will also be involved within Canada.

This opportunity offers relocation assistance for out of province candidates.
Salary is competitive and benefits included.

The Company will pay 100% of the membership fees for the Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA) and/or ISACA. The Company will pay 100% of the cost of books for exam preparation and 100% of the exam fees.
