UNIX/Sybase Application Support Analyst
Location: Halifax

Keane Canada, one of Canada’s Top 100 Employers, is looking for an experienced UNIX/Sybase Application Support Analyst to join our team in Halifax, Nova Scotia.

Requirements include:

  • 3 years Sybase (preferred) or Oracle
  • 3 years UNIX Operating System (cron, autosys, cgi)/troubleshooting skills (truss, strace, top, Isof etc) 

Desirable:

  • Autosys
  • Java/JSP
  • HTML/XML
  • Programming-(Tomcat, Python, SQL, shell scripting, Perl) 

Position Duties:

  • Monitor, maintain and support approximately 1800 batch feeds and the associated jobs across business units
  • Monitor applications running in UNIX operating system
  • Coordinate with various data providers to ensure streams proceed as scheduled 
  • Coordinate with DBA when DB behaves abnormally or needs to be modified per client’s instructions 
  • Fix known issues/failures to allow streams to proceed 
  • QA for data streams

Environment:

Applications run on Linux/Solaris platforms, with a Sybase database backend, interfacing with an IBM mainframe and its DB2 databases. We use IBM Websphere MQ Series XML message passing, as well as SOAP/XML for interprocess communications, and Apache/Tomcat with New Atlantic ServletExec web application servers. Our maintenance scripts are written in Korn Shell and Perl scripting, and many of our workflow tools are maintained in PHP. Most of the other technologies used are in-house developed at the bank, and have been written in projects very similar to common GNU/UNIX utilites.

This position is a Support role working in a 24x7 environment with rotating shift work. Most of the team currently works 12 hour shifts - 3 on 3 off, but flexibility is required. There is a * 5% Shift premium for evening and night
