Network Administrator / Manager
The Network Administrator plays a key role within Techlink to administrate, maintain and improve all aspects of the IT infrastructure including servers, workstations, networking equipment and related software and equipment. The Network Administrator works pro-actively to ensure that Techlink makes efficient use of IT equipment and software to support our growing company and to investigate new technology and guide Techlink staff. The Lead Network Administrator reports to technical senior management and manages intermediate and junior network administrators
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Deployment and configuration of servers, workstations and networking equipment
- Administration of corporate servers including user accounts, performance monitoring and maintenance
- Troubleshooting of software and hardware failures, working independently and together with manufacturers where appropriate to repair and resolve issues
- Enterprise level data management, including daily backups, disk imaging, encryption and security
- Development of scripts and web interfaces to monitor system performance and to automate routine tasks
- Direct and assist intermediate and junior network administrators
- Use of trouble ticket system
- Pro actively investigate new technology and plan improvements
- Reporting to management
- Maintain asset inventory
- Train and assist staff
Qualifications:
- Strong network administration skills, TCP/IP networking and SNMP monitoring
- Proven planning, troubleshooting and improvement to enterprise-level IT infrastructure
- Experience with SAN, KVM, UPS, power distribution and wireless networks
- Strong PC hardware and OS troubleshooting skills
- Capable of installing, testing and troubleshooting network cabling
- Experience with Shell scripts, Perl, CGI, PHP, HTML and SQL an asset
- Experience with VPN, Cisco router configuration, performance monitoring and network performance tuning is an asset
- Familiarity with access control systems, video monitoring, telephony systems and other IT infrastructure equipment is an asset
Work Environment:
- Majority of time will be spent in a typical office environment
- Occasional industrial or server room environments as required to access equipment
- Occasional travel to satellite offices
- Occasional after-hours work in case of equipment failure or emergencies
Education and Experience:
- A combination of recognized post-secondary training and experience. College level diploma or Bachelor's degree is preferred
- Administrator level experience with Windows 2000, XP, Vista desktop operating systems and Windows 2000/2003 server and active directory
and/or - Administrator level experience with recent leading UNIX/Linux distributions, specifically with experience with Samba, SSH, Apache and MySQL
- A minimum of 4+ years of experience for lead positions
- Strong attention to detail, excellent documentation, good inter-personal skills and ability to multi-task is essential
- Management experience is an asset
