Credit Union Central of Nova Scotia is accepting applications for the one-year term position of Information Technology Developer I to assist in providing programming solutions and support in the areas of Internet technology and database solutions.
The Position:
Reporting to the Supervisor, Information Technology, the Information Technology Developer I will be responsible to:
- Participating in all aspects of the software engineering lifecycle including requirements gathering, structured analysis, design implementation, testing and deployment
- Designing queries and report formats for ad hoc and regular management reporting and running scheduled reporting
- Resolving service issues with existing proprietary system and updated existing systems
- Designing and installing new applications; updating code; monitoring and managing services levels; and analyzing and resolving security issues
- Monitoring the web site hosting service and liaising with outsourced service providers to maintain functional levels or resolve any problems
- Developing and maintaining documentation relating to the company websites and internal database systems
- Developing and issuing communiqués to Company and credit unions regarding the company website and providing regular reporting on website usage statistics.
- Providing technical assistance to the Supervisor, IT on sporadic issues and in the planning and development of new projects
- Providing website and internal database technical support and conducting one-on-one or small group training on updated website features or internal database systems
- Investigating and researching new technologies related to developing and maintaining enterprise class software
- Assisting and backing up other members of the IT team and completing other projects and duties as assigned
The Person:
The successful candidate will possess a Computer Science Degree or an equivalent technical diploma plus have a minimum of three years related experience; or have an equivalent combination of education and experience. The incumbent will also have:
- Strong communication skills including oral and written communication skills (with an emphasis on technical writing) and interpersonal skills
- Training and demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Access and Microsoft SQL Server
- Training and demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft.NET (VB, C#) 2.0 or above, General web development methodology, VBA, XHTML/HTML, XML
- Demonstrated proficiency in tcp/ip, http/https, ftp, telnet and ssh protocols
- Proven object oriented programming skills
- Training and demonstrated proficiency in Windows operating system
- Proven project management skills
- Demonstrated training skills using the principles of adult learning
- Strong organizational skills
- Experience in Unix operating systems will be considered an asset
- Experience in PHP, PERL, VB Script, JavaScript and Adobe Flash will be considered and asset

Compensation:
This is a one-year term position that is rated at Salary Grade CU-5 ($40,010 to $47,071). Credit Union Central offers a competitive contract employees’ benefits package as well as participation in the Variable Compensation Program.
