The Opportunity:

Reporting to the Manager, Operations Support, the position of Database Administrator is responsible for the technical planning and administration of some or all ALC database environments, as assigned. Areas of responsibility include, but are not limited to; administration of database security, storage management, database management, database configuration management, and performance monitoring and maintenance.

Core Responsibilities:

The successful candidate will be required to:

  • Plans, delivers, and maintains systems configurations to meet ALC business and architectural requirements.
  • Ensures adequate database resources to effectively accommodate current and future production requirements.
  • Ensures optimum performance and resource utilization of all ALC databases. Measures database performance against established baselines and provides metrics reporting. Makes recommendations based on these measurements.
  • Implements and maintains database access as defined by business and security rules. Monitors compliance.
  • Analyzes current database performance metrics to provide input in the development/integration of new IT solutions.
  • Evaluates database revision levels and recommends upgrades where required.

Key Assets and Competencies:

  • University degree in Computer Science (or equivalent). 5-7 years of experience in medium sized progressive environment. 
  • Specific training and experience, in some or all of the following areas: Database technologies (MS-SQL server, DB2, Oracle), MS and Client operator system, MS Exchange 5.5 or above, UNIX, AIX, Sun Solaris. 
  • Good organizational and interpersonal skills are essential to this position. 
  • The willingness and ability to be part of an on call support rotation 24/7 are also required.
  • A good understanding of MS Office products and Remedy call system as well as certifications such as ITIL, MCP, MOUS, and A+ etc. would be considered an asset.
