Packaging Technician

We are currently seeking a Packaging Technician to join our Innovation and Research & Development team in Amherst, Nova Scotia.  Reporting to the Innovation and R&D Manager, the successful candidate will assist with day to day activities associated with Innovation and Research & Development projects, and assist the Lab Technician with routine testing.

Qualifications/Critical Skills:

  • Undergraduate degree in Process Engineering, Packaging Engineering, or Science
  • Two (2) years’ experience working in a laboratory environment
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint software programs
  • Good communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Demonstrated strong attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy; detail-oriented
  • Excellent time-management and organizational skills; able to multi-task effectively
  • Strong project management skills
  • Excellent analytical skills
  • Proven strong interpersonal skills

Preferred:

  • Five (5) years’ experience working within a flexographic printing environment

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Maintains and tracks CFIA submissions
  • Maintains and tracks SRED projects
  • Maintains and completes WO’s associated with new opportunities and trials
  • Identifies packaging solutions and qualifies packaging components
  • Generates, evaluates, and coordinates packaging-related documentation, including specifications, test plans, and reports
  • Ensures compliance with laws, regulations, and guidelines applicable to PolyCello packaging
  • Writes concise, professional laboratory reports
  • Reverse-engineers material and film samples and makes film recommendations
  • Sources suppliers of film, adhesive, and other materials; stays current on new offerings
  • Performs routine laboratory work, including compiling Technical Data Sheets
  • Acts as back up to the Laboratory Technician
