Stantec is seeking a junior/intermediate Geotechnical Technician/Technologist to join our team at the St. John's, Newfoundland office.

Your Duties:

You will work with a team of engineers and technologists/technicians performing general geotechnical responsibilities. Duties consist of both field and laboratory work and will include, but not be limited to the following:

  • Carry out field related tasks such as: test pitting and drilling supervision, pile inspection, anchor testing, construction QA/QC, and compaction monitoring
  • Carry out standard laboratory tests related to soils and materials testing
  • Carry out compaction testing using the nuclear densometer
  • Operate computerized and digital testing equipment
  • Ensure field equipment is maintained in good condition
  • Prepare detailed field reports
  • Work out of town for short periods at a time (typically 2 to 3 week rotations)
  • Interact routinely with Contractors and Geotechnical Engineers
  • Assist with preparation of geotechnical reports and proposals

Your Capabilities and Credentials:

The successful candidate will possess the following qualifications:

  • Energetic team player with a commitment to superior client service
  • Diploma in Civil Engineering Technology or equivalent is preferred
  • Previous experience is preferred; however, recent graduates in Civil Engineering from an accredited college or undergraduates with at least one year in a Civil Engineering Diploma program are also encouraged to apply
  • Strong understanding of construction practices and earthworks
  • Ability to operate, maintain and calibrate field equipment and ensure that quality records and documentation are completed
  • Experience and knowledge of Health and Safety matters
  • Solid verbal and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated organizational and time management skills to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
  • Good interpersonal skills; capable of working independently and within a team environment
  • Ability to work overtime
  • Valid Canadian driver’s license and personal vehicle
