The Cancer Care Program of Eastern Health has a provincial mandate to deliver cancer care to the people of Newfoundland and Labrador.  It operates the Dr. H. Bliss Murphy Cancer Centre (DHBMCC) in St. John's, and regional programs throughout the province.  Currently a challenging and rewarding career opportunity exists for a Medical Physicist.

The DHBMCC in St. John's adjoins Memorial University of Newfoundland's Faculty of Medicine and the General Hospital, a major teaching centre in a modern tertiary care Centre.  The DHBMCC is fully equipped with four Varian Linear Accelerators (all with 120MLC and aSi portal imaging, two accelerators have onboard-imaging capabilities), a cobalt unit, an orthovoltage unit, an HDR Brachytherapy unit, a CT-Simulator, Eclipse Treatment Planning System and ARIA Record and Verify System. The Medical Physics Department supports active clinical programs in IMRT, IGRT and HDR Brachytherapy with a Stereotactic Radiosurgery program planned for 2010.

Duties:

The successful candidate will be responsible for the professional support for clinical services such as radiation safety, treatment planning, calibration of therapy machines and quality assurance.  Candidates will be expected to participate in selecting, acceptance testing and commissioning of new radiotherapy equipment and will have the opportunity to participate in research, education and in the development of new radiotherapy techniques.

Qualifications:

Candidates should possess a M.Sc. or Ph.D. in Medical Physics or a related discipline.  Preference will be given to candidates with experience in clinical radiation physics.  Certification through the Canadian College of Physicist in Medicine is preferred.  In accordance with Canadian Immigration requirements, preference will be given to Canadian citizens and permanent residents of Canada.    A satisfactory record of work performance and attendance is required.

Hours of Work: 70 hours bi-weekly

Salary: In accordance with the NAPE-LX collective agreement
