The Department of Social Development has an opening for a Housing Inspector in the Miramichi region.
The major duties of this position are to conduct building inspections for a variety of housing programs on government owned as well as on private residences, to ensure compliance with plans, contracts, regulations, codes and standards; to assess the condition of these buildings and make recommendations for necessary repair work; to prepare technical reports, specifications, cost estimates, detailed cost analysis and completing the EcoEnergy evaluations under the Provincial Energy Efficiency Retrofit Program. Above duties require an understanding of the National Building Code and how it applies to the construction industry. Inspections include but are not limited to structural, ventilation, plumbing, heating and electrical energy efficient components. The candidate must possess strong analytical, problem solving and interpersonal skills, as well as independent judgement within the framework of governing regulations, laws, codes and policies. Travel throughout the region is required.
Qualifications:
Candidates should have graduated from a two (2) year civil engineering technology program and possess a minimum of one (1) year experience in building construction and/or building inspection or have graduated from a (1) year carpentry certification program and possess a minimum of three (3) years experience in building construction and/or building inspection. Civil engineering technology program graduates should be eligible for and maintain membership in the NB Society of Certified Engineering Technicians and Technologists. Candidates should have successfully completed the EcoEnergy certification or must successfully complete once hired. An equivalent combination of training and experience may be considered. Written and spoken competence in English and French is required.
