Mile One Centre is one of the newest and finest sporting and convention facilities of its kind in Canada. Operated by St. John's Sports and Entertainment Limited (SJSE), it is a 6000 seat state of the art sporting and entertainment facility that brings first class events to the province of Newfoundland and Labrador.
SJSE was incorporated in 1999 with a volunteer board appointed by the City of St. John’s. In addition to Mile One, SJSE owns St. John’s Convention Centre, a complex which is attached to Mile One by a skywalk and which features a 16,000 square foot convention hall, two 1,110 square foot meeting rooms, along with a spacious lobby and fully equipped kitchen.
Under guidance from the Board, the General Manager will plan, direct and control the operations of this multi-use facility. You will be responsible for business development as well as meeting operating and financial goals, client objectives and customer needs. This position requires a fluid leader that can liaise across all aspects of event management and operations including: sales and marketing, human resources, food and beverage, financial management, building operations and management of the contract for the Convention Centre. Under your direction this center will flourish as a dynamic and successful venue that is a model of operational excellence.
The ideal candidate has a university degree complemented by ten years’ progressive experience in managing a complex organization preferably in a recreation or entertainment venue. As an independent decision maker with superb interpersonal communication skills, the successful candidate is comfortable as the front-line contact for promoters, corporate partners and the Board. With the ability to motivate employees, manage union contracts and provide superior customer service, this extraordinary multi-tasker thrives in a fast-paced, diverse and challenging daily work environment.
