As Memorial's main window into Labrador, the Institute's Mission and Mandate is to promote university collaboration, outreach, research and education opportunities in the region. Of particular importance is the development of education programming that is relevant to the needs of Labrador, as indicated by the Labrador Post-Secondary Needs Assessment report and Memorial's Strategic Plan. The position is located in Happy Valley-Goose Bay, the geographic centre of Labrador, giving it a perspective on the regional and aboriginal issues that direct the operations of the Institute. The Opportunity:

Reporting to the Director, Labrador Institute, the Associate Director (Education and Training), will be responsible for brokering partnerships between the University and the Labrador community by drawing upon the faculty, staff and students of the University to undertake planning activities to identify priority programs areas.  Working in conjunction with the Director, you will assume a key role in developing and implementing the Institute's marketing and communications strategy and maintaining linkages with federal and provincial government officials and with key participants in the community, including the Labrador Institute Advisory Board.  In addition, as Associate Director you will assist the Coordinator of Research in identifying research projects that benefit the Labrador Community, opportunities where research can lead to or influence the development of education programming, and advance Memorial's participation within the University of the Artic.

The Candidate:

The successful candidate will have an appropriate combination of education and thorough experience in progressively responsible administrative positions, and must possess a graduate degree in a related area. The candidate will have extensive knowledge of the Labrador community, including regional development, post-secondary education, and partnerships with Aboriginal peoples. Exceptional leadership, cultural sensitivity, and relationship building skills are essential in order to build strategic partnerships between the community and the University. This professional challenge will require the application of intelligence, innovation, creativity and passion. The successful candidate will be expected to work collaboratively with all stakeholders to achieve the Institute's mission and mandate.
