Our C/L Underwriting Department is currently seeking a highly motivated individual to join their dynamic team as an experienced Senior C/L Underwriter.

Summary
The successful candidate will underwrite and service a portfolio of commercial lines business for an assigned territory in support of regional objectives of profitable growth.  The successful candidate will also develop and maintain good working relationships with an assigned field of brokers and provide technical and underwriting expertise to the underwriting team.  The successful candidate will be responsible for responding to and resolving inquiries from brokers and making operational decisions within the individual's level of authority.  The successful candidate will work with a medium degree of autonomy.

Job Duties

• Underwrite new business and renewals for an assigned field of brokers to achieve an underwriting profit
• Service an assigned field of brokers to develop positive relationships in order to achieve planned objectives
• Train members of underwriting team and support staff on technical issues to ensure continual development of staff to achieve the underwriting team business plan and regional objectives 
• Provide input to, adhere with, and monitor the annual underwriting team business plan for each assigned broker to achieve production and profit objectives
• Assist the Territory Manager C/L, in regional audits of files and underwriting reviews to ensure a high level of quality business and underwriting    

Skill and Experience Required

Education  
Minimum – Successful completion of University degree or two year college diploma in an insurance or business related field and four C.I.P. courses OR a Chartered Insurance Professional (CIP) designation

Experience  
Minimum – three (3) to five (5) years of multi-line commercial underwriting experience with a focus on property casualty

Technical Skills 
Ability to select, underwrite and manage medium to large commercial accounts; account development and analysis skills; selling skills; detailed knowledge of all Dominion commercial products and policy wordings; knowledge of broker/insurance company relationships and the ability to apply this knowledge to the underwriting of an account; negotiation skills; auditing skills; knowledge of regional objectives; portfolio analysis skills; broker management and account development skills; business planning and account management skills (including quality and mix of business risk); communication and selling skills, training skills, knowledge of competitors and the insurance market; knowledge of current political and business environments and the ability to apply this to underwriting issues; computer literate (i.e. PMS, word processing, spreadsheets).
