Senior Distribution Technician

Heritage Gas is a Nova Scotia based fully regulated gas utility committed to designing, building and operating a safe and reliable natural gas distribution system for our customers.  With over 2,000 business and residential customers in Halifax, Dartmouth, Amherst and the Halifax Stanfield International Airport areas, the Company continues to expand its natural gas network in other areas of the Province and is seeking a Senior Distribution Technician to join our team of committed professionals. 

Reporting to the Supervisor, Operations & Safety, the Senior Distribution Technician performs a wide range of complex technical activities associated with the operation and maintenance of natural gas system facilities.  This includes tasks related to gas piping, pressure control, instrumentation, gas measurement and system integrity.  As a lead technical resource for the team, the incumbent interprets system information, troubleshoots issues, and executes required action based on a strong understanding of system inputs and expected impacts.  Demonstrating high initiative and excellent problem-solving skills, the incumbent plays a technical and leadership role in the testing and adoption of new technology being utilized in building gas system infrastructure.  The Senior Distribution Technician also provides support to our developing team of professionals, participating in ongoing training initiatives and acting as a field resource. 

As a qualified applicant, you are motivated by a challenge, hard work, and the chance to be part of building a new and developing state of the art gas distribution system from the ground up.  You hold a Distribution Technician Certificate of Qualification and 10-12 years experience in natural gas distribution or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Your track record demonstrates technical leadership, a facility for learning, proactiveness on the job, and a focus on problem resolution.  Experience in planning for and responding to emergency situations, including odour calls, gas escapes and line damages, as well as Grade XII and a valid Class 5 driver's license are required.   

This position will be based in Halifax, Nova Scotia, but occasional work throughout the Heritage Gas network will be required.
