Accounting Coordinator
Town of Westville
Location: Westville

The Town of Westville requires a new Accounting Coordinator. This position's main purpose is in the assistance of planning, controlling, reporting and measuring the information and assets of The Town of Westville.  

The New Accounting Coordinator will be required to produce and analyze financial information critical to our business interests. The Accounting Coordinator will be responsible for overseeing the entire accounting cycle for the Town. The Accounting Coordinator will also be expected to handle financial plans and policies, accounting practices, the conduct of relationships with lending institutions and the financial community, maintenance of financial records, and the preparation of financial reports including monthly bank reconciliations.

Job Duties:

  • Analytical review of the reconciliation of all balance sheet accounts on a monthly basis, including the reconciliation of subsidiary ledgers to the general ledger
  • Monthly variance analysis from budget
  • Preparation of quarterly financial statements and analysis for Council
  • Coordinate and oversee the preparation of year-end audit working papers  including assets, liabilities, revenues and expenditures
  • Preparation of year-end comparative financial statements and supporting schedules
  • Assistance with the preparation of the annual report
  • Work closely with the external audit team ensuring all necessary critical information is available to them
  • Preparation of monthly financial statements and distribution of accurate and reliable financial reports
  • Oversee the accounts receivable, cash receipts and accounts payable functions providing assistance to Directors and other team members in the review of operations and any other ad-hoc reports and requests
  • Monitoring and maintaining the general ledger
  • Other duties as requested by the CAO
  • Collection and analysis of historical data to be used in the budget process
  • Assistance in the preparation of the budget
  • Prepare financial statements, reports and records through collecting, analyzing and summarizing account information 
  • Accomplish tasks on time and contribute to the team by taking on special projects as needed
  • Responsible for maintaining banks accounts and requests
  • Monitor reserve accounts and investments, and review bank statements
  • Stay current with all regulations, practices, reporting requirements and industry trends

Qualifications:

  • Preference is given to individuals holding a Degree in Accounting 
  • Municipal or Fund Accounting experience is a definite asset
  • Minimum 4 years working experience in accounting required
  • Knowledge of accepted municipal accounting rules, practices, tax collection, and reporting requirements
  • Effective communication skills with individuals at all levels of the organization 
  • Computer literate, including effective working skills of MS Word, Excel and e-mail
  • Experience working on Microsoft Dynamics GP
  • Ability to adapt to and learn new software
  • Able to work efficiently as a part of a team as well as independently
  • High level of critical and logical thinking, analysis, and/or reasoning to identify underlying principles, reasons, or facts
  • Able to work well under pressure and meet set deadlines
  • Good organizational, time management and prioritizing skills
  • Ability to interpret and implement company policies and procedures
  • Attention to detail in all areas of work

Working Conditions:

  • Travel may be required
  • Manual dexterity required to use desktop computer and peripherals
  • Overtime as required
  • Lifting or moving up to 10lbs may be required
