Senior Advisor, Communications
Wilson Executive Search
Location: Halifax

Our client, the Canada-Nova Scotia Offshore Petroleum Board (CNSOPB), is the independent joint agency of the Governments of Canada and Nova Scotia responsible for the regulation of petroleum activities in the Nova Scotia Offshore Area.  It was established in 1990 pursuant to the Canada-Nova Scotia Offshore Petroleum Accord Implementation Acts (Accord Acts).  The Board reports to the federal Minister of Natural Resources Canada in Ottawa, Ontario, and the provincial Minister of Energy in Halifax, Nova Scotia.

On their behalf, we are seeking a Senior Advisor, Communications.  Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, the Senior Advisor, Communications is responsible for planning and managing the Board's strategic and daily communications activities and has primary responsibility for media and public relations.

The ideal candidate is a proven communicator with a high level of judgment and initiative.   As an experienced communications professional, you will have a minimum of seven years experience dealing with the media, government, industry and the public in a similar role.   Some exposure to the oil and gas industry would be an asset but not required; however, superb writing skills are crucial.    The role will maintain effective liaison with representatives from the federal and provincial governments and other regulatory boards, especially public relations/communications representatives within departments related to health and safety, environment, resources and local benefits.  You will develop opportunities to disseminate CNSOPB information through speaking engagements for the Chair, CEO and other staff at conferences, trade shows and presentations.

This position requires a great deal of flexibility as it may demand irregular working hours due to the nature of this type of role, you must be able to respond after hours to media inquiries which may arise.

To be considered for this position, ideal candidates possess a university degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism or Marketing or other relevant profession or equivalent experience.   Membership with the Canadian Public Relations Society (CPRS) and Accreditation (APR) encouraged.

To express an interest, please contact Virginia Sterling Boddie at (902)423-1657 or send your resume in confidence, with cover letter, quoting reference # 1926-CB in the subject line to 1926@WilsonExecutiveSearch.com.
