Surveillance Investigator
Alliance Investigations Inc.
Location: Fredericton

Alliance Investigations Inc., established in 2001, is a Private Investigation Agency specializing in surveillance. We conduct surveillance investigations on behalf of major insurance companies and the law firms that represent them. Our territory is the entire Province of New Brunswick.

Position:

We are seeking a full-time Surveillance Investigator to conduct surveillance on disability claimants. Extensive travel is required, including on average 60-80 nights per year. A very flexible schedule is required due to the nature of our business. An average work day is 10-12 hours. An average of 40 hours per week is expected, however, an ambitious investigator may have the opportunity to work 60 or more hours per week if so desired. Evenings, weekends, and very early mornings will be required. It is not uncommon to leave your home/hotel for an assignment between the hours of 4:30 am and 6:00 am. A "typical" day would be 6:30 am - 6:00 pm or 7:30 am - 5:00 pm. You will find though, that there is nothing "typical" about this type of job, and planning when you will be finished for the day is often impossible.

We require a written agreement stating that you can only be licensed with our company and not perform investigative services for any other investigative agency while under our license. This is due to potential conflicts of interests with our valued clients.

Qualifications:

A clear criminal record is mandatory. Special consideration will be given to those who have been previously, or are currently licensed as a Private Investigator and have surveillance experience. Graduates of law enforcement, criminology, criminal justice, correctional techniques or similar programs are preferred. The successful applicant must be loyal, hard working, self motivated, dedicated, and detail oriented. You must be able to work alone and as part of a team. Must be computer literate including the use of Microsoft Works and the ability to type long, detailed reports following a pre-established format. Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written are required. The ability to testify at any court hearing or trial in a professional manner is mandatory. Experience with the use of digital cameras and video cameras is an asset. Ability to blend into various situations for undercover work and be a quick problem solver will be qualities the successful applicant will possess.

Above average geographical knowledge of New Brunswick including cities and rural areas is required. An excellent knowledge of the cities of Saint John, Fredericton, Moncton and the Miramichi area are most important. You must have your own, non-descript vehicle with the rear windows tinted or be willing to do so at your own expense. Bilingualism is a plus but not required. Must be a skilled driver who can respond quickly to the unusual demands of mobile surveillance. Knowledge of Federal, Provincial and Municipal Statutes as they apply to Investigations & Privacy concerns is an asset. This information can be supplied to you for your reference.

To be licensed you must first pass a criminal records check, be fingerprinted and then pass an interview with the Department of Public Safety. This department will be considering you as a prospective licensed Private Investigator based on many of the requirements listed within this competition.

Details of the Position:

If you have a passion for investigations, are willing to do whatever it takes to reach your goals, and are a team player with a strong work ethic, this might be the opportunity you are looking for. This position requires an individual who is able and available to work as many hours per day as is deemed necessary, on that particular day. The work is often long, the hours irregular and travel extensive. The assignments sometimes take place at night, weekends and holidays; although you can count on mainly working Monday - Friday or Tuesday - Saturday. For the right candidate we can attempt to work around a preferred schedule of days for the most part. Again, we do require someone who is flexible and prefers to work 40-50 hours a week in the field with perhaps an additional 5 hours of administrative time.

At times you may end up in a different city or even another province for a couple of days - completely unplanned. This is not a 9-5 job. It will however allow you to develop and hone your investigative skills. You will be in the field, problem solving and improvising on a moments notice. The work can be extremely rewarding and exciting at times as you find yourself an integral part in the fight against insurance fraud. You will find yourself in situations that require you to go undercover to obtain the information and evidence you are after. This is where your interpersonal communication skills come into play as you elicit information through leading questions and then follow up on leads gathered. However, there will be many days of sitting in your vehicle alone and bored for 10-12 hours waiting for activity and the chance to prove your skills. This is the nature of surveillance work. It takes a very special person to have the patience, the resourcefulness and ingenuity to be successful in this business. Many things are out of your control, however it is the exceptional investigative mind that overcomes these obstacles and becomes successful and recognized within the industry as a Surveillance Specialist.

Many more details of the position will be supplied to those who are chosen to move on to the interview stage.

Remuneration:

$ 18 per hour to start with performance bonuses and a tax free $ 0.42 per kilometer vehicle expense allowance. Expect to drive approximately 40,000 kilometers per year. All travel expenses and cell phone expenses are paid as well as meals on overnight assignments.

Salary is negotiable for the applicant who can demonstrate that they are a seasoned Surveillance Specialist with years of experience. This individual will possess the ability to work without supervision and require no training.

Apply with resume and cover letter to: P.O. Box 20095, Fredericton, NB E3B 6Y8 or by fax at 506-472-2282. Absolutely no phone calls please. Your resume should be in chronological order, specifying education and employment in months and years. Applicants who do not clearly demonstrate the above noted qualifications will not be given consideration under this competition.

We thank all applicants for their interest, however, only those selected for an interview will be notified when the position has been filled. The competition is open until the position is filled.
