Patient Representative Liaison
River Valley Health has an immediate opportunity for a permanent part-time (0.7 FTE)
Licensed Practical Nurse in the Emergency Department at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital in Fredericton.
The Patient Representative Liaison (PRL) promotes a culture of caring from the moment the patient enters the Emergency Department. The PRL acts as the Liaison between patients/families and the Emergency Department, to extend comfort and support, explain processes, inform about delays, answer non-medical questions and offer direction. The PRL handles complaints and serves as a "central unit" for patients and families to discuss anxieties, resolve problems or simply as someone who will listen. Other duties include documenting as required; providing ongoing monitoring and assessment of the activities in the ER waiting room; greeting patients/families and the general public presenting themselves to the Emergency Department entrance; providing assistance to patients who require special accommodation (e.g wheelchairs, crutches) in exiting their vehicles and assisting them to the Emergency Department triage/waiting area; providing general direction to visitors, patients, friends and so forth to other areas of the hospital; assisting the triage nurse as required with patient care; assisting in monitoring and controlling the flow of visitors to patients admitted to the Emergency Department; handling complaints, including documentation of the complaint; facilitating resolution of difficult situations; and following up on missing/damaged property.
Qualifications:

Active registration with ANBLPN

Current BCLS certification – C level

Minimum 2 years medical/surgical nursing experience

Oral interaction, reading and writing skills in English and oral interaction in French as demonstrated by a level 2 certificate from the Department of Post-Secondary Education, Training and Labour

Ability to pay attention to detail in an environment where public contact is constant

Demonstrated organizational, interpersonal, communication and team building skills

Completion of Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Program

Demonstrated ability to work effectively with minimal supervision

Demonstrated ability to respond to emergency situations and rapidly changing priorities
