New Brunswick Public Library Service is searching for a dynamic professional librarian with demonstrated enthusiasm for the mission of public libraries, to serve as Assistant Regional Director of the Chaleur Library Region in Campbellton.

Reporting to the Regional Director, the Assistant Regional Director is part of the regional management team and takes part in the development, communication and implementation of regional and provincial vision, and strategic and operational plans.

The Assistant Regional Director supervises all small libraries in the region (those with a population served of 3,999 or less), as well as the bookmobile and the regional technical services unit. He/She is responsible for the development and implementation of sound management practices and for the hiring, training, supervision and evaluation of managers and supervisors of the above services.

Duties include coordinating the regional implementation of provincial and regional programs and projects in his/her areas of responsibility; coordinating and supervising the development of library automation at the regional level; participating in a variety of provincial, regional and community committees; assisting in the analysis of staff training needs and in the planning of appropriate training to meet them; assisting in the development of regional policies and procedures; assisting in the management of collections on a regional scale including selection and weeding; attending regional library manager meetings as well as regional forum meetings as required; making presentations; supervising the compilation of regional statistics; researching and writing reports; coordinating the publication of regional material as required; and assuming other duties as assigned.

The Assistant Regional Director will assume key responsibilities within the region in the absence of the Regional Director.

Candidates must possess a master's degree in Library and/or Information Studies from an ALA accredited program and at least four (4) years of progressively responsible experience in management and supervision. They must also have a strong knowledge of library automation software, e-mail, Ms-Word, the Internet and electronic reference tools. Written and spoken competence in English and French is required.

We are searching for a team leader with a demonstrated sense of organization coupled with problem solving and analytical skills. He/She will also possess strong interpersonal and communication skills.

This position requires travel and a valid driver's license is necessary.

Note:  In the event that this competition poses difficulties in recruiting a qualified candidate, a covering off appointment may be made. In that case, candidates with less than four (4) years of experience may also be considered.
