Outreach Worker
The Coalition Against Abuse in Relationships (CAAR) is a non-profit organisation which exists since 1990. Its members work together to break or prevent the cycle of violence. Our main goal is to see that every man, women and child has the right to live free from violence of any kind.
Description
The Outreach worker will work in partnership with various agencies of our regional Network committee under the supervision of CAAR’s Executive Director. The main goals are to sensitize and to educate the community on the dynamics of family violence and to decentralize services by reaching out to the rural communities served by our network of agencies
Objectives
- To enhance our regional network by contacting and meeting with various service providers (community and government) in order to identify existing resources and how they are used.
- To contact different community and government agencies, companies, trade associations, etc. in order to give a presentation about services and programs on the issue of family violence.
- To contact rural communities in order to identify strengths and gaps in services pertaining to domestic violence. During this process we will explore what can be done to address their needs.
- To develop partnerships with the local media in order to ensure a visibility of services, programs and various projects carried out by our network service providers.
Job Qualifications/Skills
- a university/college degree in social services, psychology, or related field;
- bilingual with excellent written and oral skills;
- proficient computer skills including word and internet;
- be able to work flexible hours including weekends and evenings;
- understand and be aware of family violence, women abuse, how domestic violence impacts children;
- be aware of existing services offered to victims and/or perpetrators of domestic violence;
- have experience with facilitating groups or direct work with abused women;
- willing to travel in the southeast region;
- must be self-directed and able to manage time efficiently.
Responsibilities include:
- to develop contacts with communities to which we will make presentations on family violence;
to maintain regular contact with members of the CAAR committee in order to stay updated with services, products, programs, etc.; - to develop contacts and a working relationship with other outreach workers and other working groups in N.B. involved in family violence;
- to assist partner agencies as requested and agreed upon by the executive director and/or the CAAR committee;
- to attend all CAAR related meetings and take minutes;
- to develop a tracking tool for CAAR members to monitor follow-up contacts/needs/services in rural communities;
- to develop a presentation on family violence and “what’s available” in terms of help;
- to report bi-weekly to the Executive Director on activities and accomplishments;
- to present a monthly summary report to the CAAR committee at each monthly meetings;
- to present a final report to the CAAR committee at the end of the work term, March 31st, 2009.
Salary range:
$28,000 – $32,500 This pilot project may continue after first year.
