Overall Objective And Purpose
This is a position within the Enterprise Architecture organization, with the primary accountability of architecting and designing Enterprise Series products. The Software Architect will provide strong end to end leadership in the definition and build out of products, working with the solutions management and product team. The Software Architect is responsible for making appropriate selections on technology and design and maintains consistency of the same across all ES products. The software architect will own and drive the corporate initiatives such as TCO in their respective product areas from the technology perspective. The Software Architect will also work with the Solutions Architect for selecting appropriate solution alternatives and the technical design for the project. The Software Architect will develop technology roadmaps that are consistent with the product roadmap from solutions management. The Software Architect will have full ownership and responsibility to ensure compliance with Enterprise Architecture processes for the products they are responsible for. Competitive analysis of competing solutions will be conducted by the Software Architect in support of identifying cost and competitive differentiation.
The Software Architect possesses exceptional in-depth knowledge encompassing J2EE, database, software application, and network infrastructure disciplines. The Software Architect provides specialized technical guidance and design for complex product requirements. The design is then used by business, systems, software and technical engineers to drive detailed design. The Software Architect demonstrates outstanding communication skills and has a track record of consistently rendering clear technical judgment and routinely considers architecture-level, project-planning, and other project-level issues. The Software Architect demonstrates a commitment to devise solutions in accordance with the Enterprise Series Architecture as well as product implementation budgets. The Software Architect shows proficiency in all phases of system development methodologies and life cycles.
Principle Duties and Responsabilities
Create and continually update Enterprise Architecture models for Enterprise Series products responsible for
- Design and lead development of Enterprise Scale systems in Java
- UI Architecture experience with smart client applications (.NET, C#, Rich Client web applications)
- Create technology roadmaps and white papers
- Educate developers on the capabilities of the Architecture.
- Be hands on, perform Proof of Concepts on various technology choices
- Multi tasking, assist multiple application development projects with design and construction of applications using supported tools and architectures.
- Plan, direct and assist in conducting performance tests to prove scalability of architecture
- Help with evaluation and adoption of new tools or technology's if the existing Architecture and product portfolio does not fit requirements.
- Constantly keep up with technology portfolio and industry trends.
- Acting as an expert and trusted advisor, provide developers and project teams guidance on key technical decisions, architectural standards and best practices.
Qualifications:
- Computer Science degree or equivalent experience is required.
- First hand experience with Java development, object oriented design.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal are required.
- Excellent presentation skills are desired (candidate should be able to present complex technical solutions and architectures).
- Ability to ensure successful implementation of components or products that have been designed by overseeing programmers doing the construction.
- Jboss Application Server.
- Experience with messaging, portals, search, content management, rules engines, EAI or data integration, BI or reporting is a plus.
Technical Skills:
- Must have held the role of a Technical Architect for enterprise-scale, J2EE-based products or solutions.
- 3+ years of architecture and design experience in .NET rich client applications product
- 3+ years of integration experience with .NET and Java server technologies
- 7 + years information technology and full software development experience
- 3 + yrs Product / Service development or management experience.
- 5 + years server-side Java/J2EE programming and web-based application development (HTML, Javascript, XML).
- 3+ hands on development experience in Java & Open Source Technologies including:
- Hibernate
- JGroups,
- EJBs, Web-Services, RESTful
- Spring Framework
- 5+ years J2EE software architectures, Servlet/JSP development.
- 5+ years of experience in Relational Database Management Systems (Experience DB2 is a plus)
- 3+ years of experience in Data Modeling
- 5 + years experience JBoss Application Server V4+ or other App Server, Eclipse or other IDEs
