Senior DCS Specialist
(Full Time Position)

The Long Lake Project is a unique joint venture of two companies with a shared vision for oil sands development - OPTI Canada Inc. and Nexen. Each company brings a distinct skill set, background experience and perspective to the project. Together we make an innovative and exciting team, collaborating on a truly new type of oil sands development.

The Long Lake project is located approximately 40 km southeast of Fort McMurray, Alberta. The lease is estimated to hold approximately six billion barrels of bitumen. OPTI and Nexen have a 50/50 joint ownership of the lease and plan to produce 70,000 bbl/d of bitumen using steam assisted gravity drainage (SAGD) and upgrade it to approximately 60,000 bbl/d of high quality synthetic crude oil using the patented OrCrude (TM) process, combined with conventional hydrocracking and gasification technologies.

Relocation to Fort McMurray is required for this position.

The Position:

Operating Phase:

• Support OPTI Upgrader operating objectives
• Support, maintain and refine process control systems reliability and integrity programs
• Operational instrumentation support includes but is not limited to supporting;
• Day to day and long range trouble-shooting and optimization
• Maintenance of equipment and system reliability
• Support TA planning and execution
• Oversee and ensure that any contractors assigned to your responsibility meet quality, cost and schedule targets
• Evaluate and recommend programs, systems and tools for the Upgrader operations groups for meeting and exceeding unit continuous improvement initiatives

Project Phase:

• Develop procedures and other infrastructure for readiness to operate
• Support the factory and site acceptance testing for Emerson Delta V DCS system
• Ability to respond to fast paced environment
• This ideal candidate is responsive and willing to contribute to an evolving origination culture.
• Support the project as required;
• Loop testing and verification
• Plant site commissioning
• Identification of deliverables from the project required for long term operation 

Qualifications:

• Completion of either a 4 year apprenticeship in Instrumentation or completion a 2 year technical program from an accredited institution
• Technical strength coupled with good people skills, good planning
• Must have strong PC skills and demonstrated written and verbal communication skills You are experienced in or have a good understanding of;
• Plant site process control systems
• Emerson Delta V or other advance process control DSC system experience
• Knowledge of instrument systems and equipment reliability programs
• Area classifications and specification of plant site equipment.
• Equipment and system knowledge and experience should include:
  • PLC's, Flow measurement control and Foundation field bus
  • 3 - 10 years plant site experience in an Upgrader, oil refinery or similar hydrocarbon industry
  • Other industrial experience in a process or manufacturing plant will be considered
  • 8+ years in supporting a DCS system in an operating plant environment
  • Demonstrated experience in hands-on support of operations, technical and maintenance work teams

Candidates with alternate combinations of education and experience may be considered.
