Duties:

The Inspector Specialist is responsible for regulatory enforcement, auditing, inspections, monitoring, educational and advisory functions under the Environment Act and associated regulations and other legislation administered by the department.  The Inspector ensures compliance with departmental regulations on a number of matters including conducting site inspections, investigations, audits and sampling.  The Inspector inspects, reports and recommends protection of the public and the environment through approval and certificate application for a variety of activities including the recommendations of terms and conditions for granting approvals.  The position responds to and investigates complaints and provides directions for remedial actions as necessary.

Qualifications:

Grade XII, plus completion of related trade or technical training in the area of specialty and 7 years experience following course completion; or an acceptable equivalent combination of training and experience.  Must have thorough knowledge of departmental legislation, regulations, standards; as well as demonstrated ability to interpret regulations, policies and chemical and bacteriological reports.  The applicants must demonstrate ability to ensure compliance with regulatory provisions with firmness and tact, and possess good communication (verbal and written) and interpersonal skills.  Daily access to a motor vehicle is essential as extensive travel is required within the region.  Candidate must be eligible for Special Constable status and be eligible for certification as an Environmental Technologist or Public Health Inspector.

Classification Level: TE 27
 
Salary Range: $ 54,168 - $62,917
