Senior Team Leader – Mine Operations
Location: Labrador City

Our client is a leading international mining group and their business is finding, mining, and processing mineral resources. Major products are aluminum, copper, diamonds, energy (coal and uranium), gold, industrial minerals (borax, titanium dioxide, salt, talc) and iron ore. Activities span the world but are strongly represented in Australia and North America with significant businesses in South America, Asia, Europe and southern Africa.

Our client is the largest manufacturer of iron ore pellets in Canada and its customer base covers North American, European and Asian steel producers.  Our client operates a mine, concentrator and a pelletizing plant in Labrador City, Newfoundland and Labrador, as well as port facilities located in Sept-Ξles (Quebec). It also operates a 418 kilometer railroad that links the mine to the port. Our client has approximately 1900 employees which have activities in more than 40 countries throughout the world.

This is in an exciting period of growth for our client which will see production increase by up to 50% over the next 5 years from the current 55MT/yr.  Reporting to the Superintendent Mine Operations, the ideal candidate will play a critical role in coaching front line team leaders to safely maximize daily production while leading initiatives to support expansion.

Key responsibilities:

  • Provide effective leadership by setting clear expectations, providing feedback and coaching front line team leaders to excel in the areas of safety, production, cost control and quality
  • Develop and maintain effective relationships with the Mine Technical Services & Maintenance teams to optimize the weekly production plan and manage real time execution
  • Develop standards and processes to improve team productivity and work practices
  • Work with the training group to develop programs to upgrade employees' skills and HSE awareness
  • Assist in the development of annual cost & production budgets
  • Contribute and actively encourage the contribution and execution of continuous improvement ideas 

Required Qualification

  • At least 5 years of demonstrated leadership experience in an open pit mine

Desirable

A bachelor's degree in mine engineering or a related engineering discipline.
