Mechanical Engineer (Intermediate to Senior)

Description:

This assignment involves working within the Plant Engineering organization to provide daily mechanical engineering technical support to the operating areas - Primary Ore (Open Pit Mining Operation), Product Manufacturing (Mineral Processing Operation) and Central Services (Heating, Steam, Compressed Air and Service Shops). The primary focus will be on activities, which will deliver immediate improvements in environment, safety and health conditions, increasing production throughput and reducing operating cost.

The successful candidate will be assigned to one of the operating areas as his/her primary focus area. The successful candidate will be located within the operating area working very closely with operations, maintenance and process engineering. This position requires sufficient interaction with the operating areas (both staff and unionized workforce) involved in problem identification and resolution.

The successful candidate will also manage the execution of key activities to address identified issues primarily through the management of contract resources.

The successful candidate will possess:

  • Strong mechanical technical capabilities in a heavy industrial environment.
  • Good failure analysis capability and demonstrated use of his/her capabilities - practical utilization of their capabilities
  • Contract management exposure and capabilities.

Educational, Qualifications & Training:

Essential:

  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Professional Engineering license to practice in Newfoundland and Labrador or actively working towards designation.

Desirable:

  • Formal Project Management training
  • Trained and qualified in industrial failure analysis techniques.

Work Experience:

Essential:

  • 3+ years of experience in a heavy industrial setting.

Demonstrated:

  • Desire to take initiative and work independently,
  • Ability to work as part of and lead a multi-disciplinary team,
  • Skill in identifying and managing internal customers' expectations,
  • Written communications that have clarity and impact, and
  • Ability to prepare and make presentations.

Desirable:

  • Heavy industrial experience in mining (open-pit), familiarity with mineral processing industrial equipment.
  • Previous experience working in a unionized environment.
