Our client has an immediate opening for some a Senior Process Instrumentation and Controls Designer in their operation in Saint John, New Brunswick. This is a long term contract position.
Job Description:
As part of a multi discipline, multi project EPC department, a Senior Process Instrumentation and Controls Designer reports to the Instrumentation Lead and is responsible for all of the engineering activities leading up to the completion of construction and commissioning of the instrumentation portion of projects.
Duties:
- Liaises with other engineering disciplines and the client.
- Actively participates in various project meetings as required such as Kick-Off meetings, P&ID reviews, and HAZOP reviews
- Prepares material and man-hour estimates of instrumentation activities.
- Reviews and revises P&IDs, location drawings, installation details, piping isometrics, etc. per industry and site standards.
- Prepares instrument index, I/O lists, and datasheets.
- Selects a wide range of appropriate process instrumentation and prepares RFQ for purchasing.
- Prepares sizing and other calculations for valves, orifice plates, thermowells, and other instruments as required.
- Completes the technical evaluation of submitted bids and along with the purchasing group selects the appropriate vendor and instrument.
- Completes the installation design including installation details, loop drawings, junction box details, interconnection diagrams, configuration and programming instructions, etc.
- Prepares the detailed Engineering Work Order (EWO) for issue to various construction contractors.
- Liaises with and provides technical support to the construction, commissioning and control systems groups until final turn over to the client.
Requirements:
- Certificate in Automation and Control Engineering Technology or equivalent training and experience.
- Familiar with MS Office suite of products.
- Well organized, proactive, team player.
- Ability to work with limited supervision.
Skill in the following would be considered assets:
- PLC / DCS programming and configuration
- AutoCad 2005
- Safety Integrety Levels (SIL) and Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS)
