Position Scope:

This new position for Primary Health Care Nurse Practitioner offers the opportunity to work collaboratively with family physician(s) to provide a range of primary care services, including health promotion, injury and illness prevention, diagnosis, treatment and monitoring of commonly encountered health problems and injuries and management of stable chronic health problems. These services are provided within a holistic, client-centered care framework.

The Nurse Practitioner is responsible and accountable for the nursing assessment and/or primary care for a selected population of patients. This position must maintain currency of licensure and certification and function under the Collaborative Practice Agreement with a collaborating physician(s) by consulting with the collaborating physician and other health professionals.

Qualifications:

• Successful completion of a recognized Nurse Practitioner program and registered or eligible to register with active-practicing status, as a Nurse Practitioner with the CRNNS
• One year Nurse Practitioner experience in primary health care or a reasonable combination of nursing experience and education
• Level of competence to practice within the Nova Scotia Nurse Practitioner Scope of Practice
• High level of self-motivation and initiative
• Demonstrated leadership skills and abilities in a clinical setting
• Demonstrated health promotion skills
• Demonstrated above average written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to communicate in both French and English an asset
