Medical Laboratory Technologist I
Temporary Full Time (1.0 FTE) until May 2009

Cytogenetics Lab, Pathology & Laboratory Medicine, Operations & Support Services

Position Summary: Reporting to the Section Manager, the MLT I is responsible for the detailed laboratory and microscopy work that may include, but is not limited to: 

• Specimen accessioning and patient data entry into database
• Cytogenetic specimen set up, culture and harvest
• Slide preparation and staining
• Chromosome analyses and karyotyping using semi-automated system
• Specimen preparation for and conduct of FISH analyses using semi-automated system
• QA/QC procedures and documentation
• Equipment troubleshooting and maintenance
• Routine laboratory housekeeping/organization
• Practice in accordance with current safety legislation and CSMLS/NSCMLT code of conduct

Shifts: 7.5 hour shifts; Monday to Friday days, with weekend rotation

Qualifications: 

• Graduate from a recognized Clinical Genetics training program required
  
  or
  
• Subject RT in Cytogenetics with previous Cytogenetic laboratory experience required
  
  and
  
• Licensed, or eligible for licensing, with the Nova Scotia College of Medical Laboratory Technology (NSCMLT) required.
• Demonstrated excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Demonstrated effective problem solving, organizational, time management and prioritization skills.
• Ability to work effectively and efficiently in independently and in a collaborative team environment.
• Demonstrated ongoing commitment to technical competency and professional development.

Salary:     $23.3686 - $28.4524/Hour
